Kitesurfing around Barcelona
What a sport!!!
My hubby Martijn started kitesurfing 4 years ago and out of nothing he was addicted to something I didn’t even know it existed.
Spain is one of the most popular and accessible destinations in Europe for kiteboarding/kitesurfing. The country has been getting lots of attention lately, not only because of its great conditions though its world class kitesurfing and positive promotion towards its popular but often very crowded destinations, such as Tarifa and Fuerteventura.
Catalonia on the other hand has some less known and weigh less busy alternatives. The best kite beach of the Barcelona area is Castelldefels with great condition between September and May. The only downside is that during summer there is the kitesurf prohibition in all of Catalonia, with some exceptions and certain time slots (read more).
Martijn booked a course in the beginning with "MojoKite" Castelldefels.
The owners are 2 lovely ladies who speak English, Dutch and Spanish and were great teachers. Check out their website where you find awesome insider information about kiting and co.
Nowadays he is (in my unknowledged opinion) becoming quite advanced in kitesurfing and you can imagine that we head from windy beach to windy beach while we search for destinations with our camper. In the beginning I was not the biggest fan of being the breaded (sanded) “Schnitzel” or Croquette on the beach, waiting for him. But now I explored photography and I try to make the best shots of him. As a wakeboarder myself, I can understand his pleasure but unfortunately, I am not made for the wind and waves combination.
During the summer season there are good places to kite with no restrictions: E.g. Sant Pere Pescador (Costa Brava) and Riumar in Delta Ebre. These areas slightly further but it is possible to go on the water during prohibition period June – August.
If you’d like to know more about kitesurfing in the Barcelona area, don’t hesitate to send me a message and I’ll get you in contact with Martijn.
